Sewing Together Again

Sewing together again …with sanitiser!

Finding a bright light in the gloom of 2020 has been so hard for many people.

That’s why it was a lovely surprise to receive my first, nervous, call from a lady who’d been a regular at my quilt classes ‘..just asking’ if there were any plans yet to restart?

I was pleased because I’d assumed everyone was locked down, not even daring to think we could restart our classes. It was a relief as well because a few more calls not only confirmed people wanted to get back, but they were happy with a change of venue as some of our classrooms have had to remain out of bounds.

The bright lights duly came back on last month – here I am putting the finishing touches to final wipe downs of desks before my first post-lockdown class returned!

And, yes, of course those lights were accompanied by all the sanitising sprays, masks, visors, track & trace registers, and a big checklist of safety protocols. But the great news is it worked. And it was FUN!

Getting out and about and being creative, meeting other people while staying safe in an educational setting; all of this offers a chance to just step away from the constant tide of depressing news.

It’s really rewarding as well being able to help people to develop their design skills and crafting techniques. I’m sure that can work well online, but there really is something special about being able to chat and work together…socially distanced, of course!
